Wedding Band in Telluride: Gorrono Ranch, The Peaks and Golden Ledge

Great Family Artists has played ten Telluride weddings since 2023, at Gorrono Ranch, The Peaks Resort and Spa, Lower Golden Ledge and Allred’s, and two more are booked for 2027. Most couples book an 8-piece band for the reception, with two to four of the same musicians playing the ceremony and the cocktail hour.

This page covers each venue we play in Telluride and Mountain Village, how the band gets up the mountain, songs couples have chosen, band sizes and prices from our own bookings, and what to settle with your venue first.

Written by the Great Family Artists team. The logistics below come from our own advance notes for these venues.

Gorrono Ranch

Gorrono Ranch is the historic ranch on the Telluride Ski Resort mountain, at 10,100 feet above Mountain Village, with room for up to 200 guests. We played three weddings there in the 2026 season, with an 8-piece band, a 10-piece band and a DJ with live sax.

  • Getting up the mountain. Our production vehicle drives up; the musicians ride the venue shuttle. Parking at the ranch is very limited, so the rest of our vehicles stay in the lot at the bottom of the hill.
  • Where the band plays. Inside the main lodge, or outside on the deck. For a deck set we ask the venue for a tent cover; some bands play the deck without one, and we do not recommend it.
  • Ceremony and cocktails. Many couples hold the ceremony at San Sophia Overlook, about five minutes’ drive further up the mountain, then return to the ranch for cocktail hour on the deck.
  • Load-in. The load-in has steps that cannot be avoided, so we schedule extra time and crew for it. Power is supplied by the venue, and a small cabin on site serves as the band’s green room.

The Peaks Resort and Spa

The Peaks sits in Mountain Village at 9,500 feet, and its Crystal Room holds receptions of up to 200 guests. We played three weddings there in the 2025 season, all with 8-piece bands. It is the one venue on this page that guests and the band reach by road, with no gondola, shuttle or field track.

Lower Golden Ledge

Lower Golden Ledge is a private site outside town, off Last Dollar Road. The reception is a tent in the field with a full build-out, so everything is brought in: the tent, the power and the band’s green room.

  • Power. The site runs on a generator. Make sure your tent and rental company sizes it for the band’s sound and lights as well as catering.
  • Parking. Parking is up the road from the site, so our musicians carpool and we bring as few vehicles as possible.
  • Green room. The planner usually provides a tent for the band; we confirm it during our technical advance.

Allred’s and San Sophia Overlook

Allred’s is at the top of the free gondola at San Sophia Station, 10,551 feet up, and holds up to 130 guests with a dance floor. The ceremony usually takes place at San Sophia Overlook nearby, and many couples have a short cocktail hour at the overlook before the main cocktail hour in the bar at Allred’s.

  • Every musician rides the gondola. Only our production vehicle goes up the mountain.
  • A small stage. The stage area is small, so we size the band and production to it.
  • Timing. Our load-in starts around 11 am, and load-out follows straight after the last song.

Songs from our Telluride weddings

A few of the songs couples chose for their Telluride weddings, played live:

  • Ceremony: “Here Comes the Sun”, Pachelbel’s Canon in D and Gregory Alan Isakov’s “Before the Sun”, on cello, piano and acoustic guitar or on guitar, piano and violin
  • Cocktail hour: a bluegrass, folk and Americana quartet (acoustic guitar, piano, violin, upright bass) in the spirit of The Band, Leftover Salmon, Billy Strings and Nathaniel Rateliff, or a trio of sax, upright bass and keys playing funky instrumentals of well-known songs
  • Grand entrance: “Let’s Get Loud” and “Dancing in the Moonlight”
  • First dances: “Can’t Help Falling in Love” in a voice-and-piano arrangement, Tyler Childers’ “All Your’n” and Father John Misty’s “Real Love Baby”
  • Parent dances: “Landslide”, “Forever Young”, “Days Like This” and “(They Long to Be) Close to You”
  • Dance floor and send-off: “Footloose”, “Dancing Queen” and “Signed, Sealed, Delivered”

About two months before your date, we collect your ceremony songs, special dances, must-plays and do-not-play list, then build the set list with you.

Planning notes for a Telluride wedding

  • Book early. Most of our Telluride couples booked us 11 to 13 months out, soon after signing with the venue.
  • Ask how the band reaches the venue. Gondola, shuttle or road changes how much gear and crew the day needs. We settle it with the venue during the technical advance, six to eight weeks before the wedding.
  • Size the band to the room. Send us the guest count and the room or tent layout before you ask for a quote. Eight pieces suits most Telluride receptions.
  • Cover the outdoor stage. Mountain weather turns fast. For any outdoor set, plan a tent cover over the band.
  • Plan for the altitude. The Peaks, Gorrono Ranch and Allred’s sit between 9,500 and 10,551 feet. Evenings turn cold even in summer, so ask about heaters and tent sides for an outdoor reception.

Which GFA band fits Telluride

  • Great Family Reunion (8 to 14 pieces): rhythm section, horns and several lead vocalists, with a DJ, MC, sound and lighting in the same package.
  • The Burroughs (5 to 10 pieces): our Colorado-based soul and funk band, a good fit for Allred’s smaller stage.
  • Taylor James String Band: folk and strings with a Colorado sound for the ceremony and a bluegrass-leaning cocktail hour.
  • OMG!: an open-format DJ with live sax and a dedicated MC, for couples who want a club-style dance floor.

Yes. We have played ten Telluride weddings since 2023: three at Gorrono Ranch, three at The Peaks Resort and Spa, two at Lower Golden Ledge and two at Allred’s, and two more are booked for 2027. Our Telluride dates so far have run from June to early October.

What is it like to have a band at Gorrono Ranch?

Gorrono Ranch sits at 10,100 feet on the mountain above Mountain Village and holds up to 200 guests. Our production vehicle drives up and the musicians ride the venue shuttle. The band plays inside the main lodge or out on the deck; for a deck set we ask the venue for a tent cover. Cocktail hour is usually on the deck, and many couples hold the ceremony at San Sophia Overlook, about five minutes’ drive further up.

How much does a wedding band in Telluride cost?

Our Telluride contracts for 2025 to 2027 ran from $20,000, for a DJ with live sax, to $39,500, for a 10-piece band. Most 8-piece bookings were $25,000 to $32,500. The price depends on band size, hours, production and travel for the band.

What size band fits a Telluride wedding?

Eight pieces is the most common choice at our Telluride weddings, and we have played there with up to 10. Allred’s has a small stage area, so we size the band to it; Golden Ledge is a full tent build-out, so the band fits the tent you rent.

How far ahead should we book a band for Telluride?

Most of our Telluride couples booked us 11 to 13 months before the wedding. The summer season is short and Saturdays fill first, so book the band when you sign with the venue.
